Many community organizations and individuals had continued to work to improve the neighbourhood. Centre de Services Communautaire Vanier (CSC Vanier) began
helping residents fulfill their personal and professional potential in the 1980s. Established by the (then)
regional government, the centre offered crisis counselling, parenting skills workshops and community
development activities. Over the years, it added skills training, employment support programs and
legal clinics, and today offers financial and human resources to a wide variety of resident-focused
programs and services.
Once a month, the Centre offers a lunch conference to the seniors living in the Green Valley building located at 300, Lacasse St. and the Fatima building located at 280 Montfort St.
A committee of Vanier residents has worked with the community and local businesses to create a community garden at Richelieu Park. A representative of the Vanier Community Service Centre also sits on this committee and helps with the coordination, fundraising and publicity of the garden and creates a link between the community garden project and the community service centre. 2010 was the opening year for the Vanier Community Garden and 25 raised-bed plots were developed. In 2011 another 11 plots are planned to accommodate a long waiting list of interested Vanier residents.
The Clothing Giveaway is a community activity that consists of giving clothes (which have been generously donated) to the families who are in need in our community.
The Snowflake Breakfast is a annual community fundraiser for Partage Vanier, our community food bank that provides meals to over 550 adults and 230 children monthly.
